Obituary

Norma J. Hurley, 92, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Hampton Oaks Health Campus. She was born on December 19, 1927 in Daviess County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Floyd and Margaret (Hart) Myers. Norma graduated from Plainville High School and then attended Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois. She was married in 1951 to Robert E. Hurley, who passed away on Sept. 16, 1983. Norma and her family lived in Indianapolis before moving to Scottsburg in 1974. She was the owner and operator of Gingerbread Kids Day Care in her home for 32 years and was a member of the old Church of the Nazarene in Scottsburg, Indiana. Norma helped organize the Scottsburg Widow's Tea Group in 1986, was a volunteer for many years for the Scott Memorial Hospital Guild, a member of the Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary Group and had always been active in church throughout her lifetime. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul Robert Hurley; three sisters, Phyllis Meek, Vonda Scott and Shirley O'Hara and three brothers, William, Richard and Nathan Robert Myers. Survivors include three daughters, Paulette Marie Strickland of Indianapolis, Indiana, Roberta Gooding (David) of Elkhart, Indiana and Beth Maguire (Tom) of Lexington, Indiana; two grandchildren, Daniel Gooding (Tracy) and Benjamin Gooding (Danie) and one great grandson, James Earl Gooding. A family directed graveside service will be held at Scottsburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Gideon's International c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
