Owen H. Egeberg, 71, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on December 17, 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Owen H. Egeberg, Sr. and Vivian Marie (Thompson) Egeberg. Owen graduated from Dundalk High School in Dundalk, Maryland and then attended Essex Junior College in Baltimore, Maryland. While attending Essex, he was invited to attend John's Hopkins University in their pre-med program, but later decided that wasn't his passion and transferred to Towson State University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. Finally, he earned his Master's Degree in Church Music at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. While attending school in Louisville, he met and married his wife, Annette Winkler Egeberg on July 9, 1976. Owen was a retired music teacher at the Scottsburg Middle and High Schools in Scottsburg, Indiana, also had been the director of the schools Choir program and continued to enjoy substitute teaching after retirement when his health would allow. He was a member of the Turning Point Church in Scottsburg, Indiana, where he had previously served as their worship leader. During his lifetime, Owen would serve many churches as their Worship Leader starting at Central Baptist Church in Paoli, Indiana. He would continue in his music ministry at the old Church of Nabb, Hanson (KY) Baptist Church, the Lighthouse Church in Hardinsburg and Madisonville, Kentucky, where he and Annette worked with Tony Trunnell Evangelistic Ministry and taught Christian music at the school. Owen was the Director and member of the old Scott County Lyric Club and directed the Living Christmas Tree at the First Christian Church for many years. He was a gifted musician and played the Harp and Piano, often accompanied by his wife on the Flute. Owen was loved by many friends, former students and church members and will be deeply missed. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Annette W. Egeberg; two "adopted" sons, Nathan Williams of Lebanon, Tennessee and Korey Whitman of New Albany, Indiana; three honorary grandchildren, Kadence, Camden and Eden Miller, the children of USMC Sgt. Michael Miller and his wife Kelly of San Diego, California; a half-sister, Sandy Nutting of Baltimore, Maryland; a sister, Jeryl Widdowson of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, Chuck Egeberg of Baltimore, Maryland and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Harriet Badders. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Turning Point Church, 899 W. McClain Avenue, Scottsburg, IN 47170 with Pastors Jon Jackson and Tom Cox officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm on Friday and noon to 2 pm on Saturday at Turning Point Church in Scottsburg.
