Obituary

Philip "Phil" Miller, 61, a devoted husband, father, pastor, and friend passed peacefully away on May 19, 2025, at home in Underwood, Indiana with his family by his side. He was born on July 20, 1963, in Newport News, Virginia, to the late Preston "Jack" Miller and Margaret Miller.

He spent his life dedicated to his faith, family, and community, leaving an indelible mark on all he encountered. On July 27, 1985, Phil married the love of his life, Marcia.

Phil served faithfully in the local church for over 40 years, championing families and raising up the next generation to chase after Jesus with boldness and purpose. Phil was a remarkable pastor, known for his unwavering devotion to his ministry. He was currently serving at Fairdale Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. His ministry over the years also included First Christian Church of Scottsburg, Shelby Christian Church in Kentucky, and Northside Christian Church in New Albany, Indiana.

Phil's heart extended beyond the church walls; he was the owner and founder of Company Shepard, where he ministered to local businesses, making a lasting impact in the community. Phil has also served faithfully as the President of The Brave Way Home for the last 4 years; a Christian discipleship movement aiming to guide others toward deeper faith and hope in Christ.

Phil found joy in life's simple pleasures-fishing, golfing, or sharing laughter and stories on the back porch of his cabin. A glutton for heartbreak, he willingly signed up for the lifelong misery of being a Washington Commanders fan. As a die-hard UNC Tar Heels supporter, he proudly declared allegiance to the correct shade of blue-and wasn't shy about reminding Duke fans of their poor life choices. Mocking the Dallas Cowboys and Duke basketball wasn't just a pastime for Phil-he treated it like his civic duty.

Phil was preceded in death by his father, Preston "Jack" Miller; and brother, Preston Miller, Jr. Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia Miller; mother, Margaret Miller; daughter, Emily Day (Josh); son, Wade Miller; brother, Staten Miller (Joyce); three grandchildren, Vera, Hunter, and Logan, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Phil's life will be held in the main auditorium at Northside Christian Church (4407 Charlestown Road, New Albany) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 2:00pm. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 and from 12:00 to 2:00 Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The family will lay Phil to rest in a private service at Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Donations can be made in Phil's honor to The Brave Way Home in c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Phil Miller will be remembered not just for his faith and the roles he embraced through his ministry but also for the warmth of his smile, the laughter he shared, and the myriads of lives he touched. To all who were fortunate enough to know him, he will always be a source of inspiration and love. Please share memories and condolences at www.collinsfuneralhome.net.
