Obituary

Phillip (Phil) Bornstein, 67, of Madison, Indiana passed away on April 21, 2024, at Norton Hospital Downtown in Louisville, Kentucky. Phil was born on July 12, 1956, in Tell City, Indiana to the late Jack and Florence Bornstein. Phillip married Fronia Bornstein on July 27, 1994, in Scottsburg, Indiana, and she preceded him in death in 2023. He was nearing retirement at Madison State Hospital where he spent many years as a Psychiatric Nurse Aide with direct patient contact. He was known there for his kindness. He was always going above and beyond to provide comfort and show patience to all who he cared for. Phil was a music lover at heart. He enjoyed playing the drums and singing, and he was in several bands over the years including Borderline Band, which he was a very proud member in earlier years. Phil was a jack of all trades, enjoying many different careers, hobbies, and life adventures; he always has a good story to share. But the most fulfilling part of his life story was being a loving father and husband. He was an old, gentle soul who never met a stranger, striking up conversations everywhere he went. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and three brothers, Thomas Bornstein, Paul Bornstein, and John Bornstein. He is survived by his three children, Phillip (Alyssa) Bornstein of Henryville, Indiana, Holly (Jeremy) Bornstein, of Swedesboro, New Jersey, and Angela (Kendall) Elles of Madison, Indiana; two grandchildren, Maggie Elles and Skyler Elles; and one sister, Mary (Brad) Grubbs of Madison, Indiana; his dog, Baxter; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, 26th of April, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Services for Phillip Bornstein will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home with Matt Craig officiating. Cremation Services have been entrusted to the caring staff at Collins Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Madison State Hospital Patient Recreation Fund.
