Obituary

Raymond "Ray" Rice, 62, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, in Texas. He was born on May 29, 1960 in Seymour, Indiana, the son of the late Jean (Barger) Combs and Donald Rice, who survives. He was the owner and operator of I 105.3 WMPI Radio Station in Scottsburg, Indiana. Ray was very well known for his involvement with the We Care organization. He hosted the We Care auction for many years and always came out in support for the Scott County Community. He was a member of the Scottsburg United Methodist Church and in the past sang in the choir. Ray was a very active volunteer for many years for the Scottsburg Band of Warriors. He was famously and lovingly known there as Chicken Man #1. Ray also played the trumpet for the Indiana University Southeast Concert Band. He had a strong passion for music and the family that came with the band community. Another passion of Ray's was the Florida Gators football team, even traveling with the team on the camera crew. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean. In addition to his father, Don, survivors include stepmother, Hazel Rice of Saul, Kentucky; stepfather, Don Combs of Orange Park, Florida; two daughters, Ashley Snelling of Sellersburg, Indiana and Amy (Jason) Nichols of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; brother, Donald (Dawn) Noble of Frankfort, Kentucky; sister, Dawn (Nathan) Sheets of Fishers, Indiana; two stepsisters, Angie (Tony) Nutter of Russiaville, Indiana and Brandie (Lance) Hand of Orange Park, Florida; stepbrother, Donnie Combs of Jacksonville, Florida; significant other, Sandy Uhler; and two grandchildren, Jacob Snelling and Lucy Nichols. Funeral Service 11:00 am Monday, January 16, 2023 at Scottsburg United Methodist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana with George Ross officiating. Visitation 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana and after 9:00 am Monday at Scottsburg United Methodist Church prior to services.
