Obituary

Rebecca Jean "Becky" Baerveldt, 96, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was born on December 25, 1926, in Red House, Kentucky, daughter of the late Aaron Thomas and Geneva (Brown) Ross. Becky graduated Valedictorian of her high school class, then went on to obtain a degree in Home Economics from Western Kentucky State Teachers College. It was there she met the love of her life. On April 7, 1951, in Drakesboro, Kentucky Becky was married by her father to Harry Lawrence Baerveldt. Later on in her career she went on to receive her Masters in Education from Indiana University. Becky was a retired employee of Scott County School District #2, where she was lovingly known as "Mrs. B". After moving to Scottsburg in 1957, she taught Home Economics at Lexington High School until transferring to Scottsburg Junior High School. Harry and Becky were active members of the Scottsburg United Methodist Church, including participating in mission trips to help rebuild houses and fellowship halls for churches and communities around the country. Very involved in her local community, she was active in Lambda Chi Omega Sorority, a leader in the Scott County 4H Club for many years, a member of the Scott County Retired Teachers Association, the SCRTA bowling league, and the Red Hats Society. Her biggest joy, however, was being surrounded by her family and lending a helping hand where needed. In addition to her parents Becky is preceded in death by her seven Ross siblings. Survivors include her husband of seventy-two years, Harry, four children, Calvin L. (Diane) Baerveldt of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Rebecca Carol (Mark) Biddle of Ogden, Utah, Larry Rae (Cindy Harkness) Baerveldt of Lake Forest Park, Washington, and Linda Marie (Rich Logan) Baerveldt of Citrus Heights, California; grandchildren, Noah Saan (Anya), Benjamin Eric (Christina), and Amanda Michelle (Jacob); step grandchildren, Michelle (Mary) and Melissa (Ryan); and eight great grandchildren.
