Rev. James H. Welling, 97, of Brookesville, Ohio formerly of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on July 5, 1926 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, son of the late Homer G. and Angie Isabelle (Lint) Welling. James served in WW II in the U.S. Navy. He has various jobs over the years ranging from taxi driver to YMCA lifeguard. All in support of his primary calling in ministry which took the form of pastoring, teaching school, outreach, and being a missionary. He also took seriously his civic duty with 15 years of Precinct Committeeman service for Scottsburg. Jim was a member of Vienna Baptist Church of Scottsburg, Indiana. In addition to his first wife and the mother of his children, L. Geraldine Welling, Jim was preceded in death by his second wife, Maxine Bridgewater Welling; and his third wife, Mary Ellen Welling; brothers, Kenneth, Homer Lee, Darrell and Dwight Welling; and sister, Mary Louise Birch. Survivors include his sister, Connie Booth and her husband Roger of Riverside, CA; two sister-in-laws, Sue Welling of Cleveland, Ohio area and Becky Welling of Merritt Island, Florida; sons, John Stephen (Lori) Welling of Leesburg, Ohio, James Perry (Pam) Welling of New Castle, Wyoming, and Michael Lee (Linda) Welling of Chicago, Illinois; daughters, Joy Marie (Doug) Jones of Evanston, Illinois, Jane Sharon (Henry) Mallon of Brookville, Ohio, and Jocelyn Sue (Gerald) Cook of Selma, Indiana; stepdaughters, Teresa (Al) Begley of Scottsburg, Indiana, Suzie Skidmore, and Carol Lowry-Ellis of Terre Haute, Indiana; stepsons, Larry (Evette) Bridgewater of Walker, Iowa, Keven (Laura) Bridgewater of Indianapolis, Indiana and Eric (Sue) Lowry of Scottsburg, Indiana; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Vienna Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana with Pastor David Carroll officiating. Visitation 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Sunday at Vienna Baptist Church. Internment and graveside services at South Canaan Cemetery in Denmark, Ohio. Expressions of Sympathy: Vienna Baptist Church Building Fund c/o Collins Funeral Home.
