Richard Thomas "Tommy" Sandlin, 74, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born on June 25, 1949, in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of the late Estil Sandlin and Eunice (Robbins) Sandlin. Tommy graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1967. He joined the Army in 1968 and served his country for three years before he was wounded in combat in Vietnam, for which he received a Purple Heart Award. Tommy spent his life running the family farm. They had dairy cattle for years and later cash crops. On March 15,1982 he married Alice (Amick) Sandlin, who survives. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Sandlin; brother, Philip Sandlin and sister, Brenda Sandlin. In addition to his wife, Alice of 41 years, Tommy is survived by; two sons, Brady (Debbie) Sandlin and Johnny (Holly) Sandlin both of Scottsburg, Indiana; stepson, Chris (Missy) Shields of Lexington, Indiana; two stepdaughters, Shannon Smith of Lexington, Indiana, and Alisha Shields of Austin, Indiana; sister, Elizabeth (Chet) Sims; brother, Larry (Connie) Sandlin; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral Service 11:00 am Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, August 1, 2023, and after 10:00 am Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment will be at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
