Robert "Bob" Burns, 81, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on December 13, 1938 in Hazard, Kentucky, the son of the late Willis and America (Sizemore) Burns. Bob graduated from Austin High School in 1956. On January 20, 1961 he was married to the former Janet S. Petty. Bob was a farmer, former owner and operator of the old Burns Brothers Construction Company and bus driver for Scott County School District II. He was a faithful member of the Solid Rock Community Church near Austin, Indiana, where he had served as a former Deacon. Bob was a member of the Austin Lions Club, past Board Member of the Indiana Soybean Growers Association and was a former lobbyist and Board Member for the Purdue Council for Agricultural Research, Extension and Teaching (C.A.R.E.T.). He was a wonderful father, teacher, mentor and friend. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by three brothers Ralph, Raymond and Carl Burns and three sisters, Julie Rhoades, Mary and Martha Burns. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Janet S. Burns; a daughter, Teresa (Ed) Cozart of Scottsburg, Indiana; two sons, Doug (Lisa) Burns of Austin, Indiana and Russell (Amanda) Burns of Noblesville, Indiana; four brothers, Arlie Burns and Paul (Sandy) Burns all of Scottsburg, Indiana, Joe (Rhonda) Burns of Plant City, Florida and Willis (Anneliese) Burns of Tyler, Texas; two sisters, Verdidies Napier of Knoxville, Tennessee and Ruth Johnson of Lakeland, Florida; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 11:00 am on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Shuler officiating. Funeral services may also be viewed on Collins Funeral Home's Facebook page at 11:00 am on Monday. Visitation: 5 to 8 pm on Sunday and after 10 am on Monday at Collins Funeral Home. Visitation and services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed. Please follow the CDC's recommendations and guidelines while attending the services and face masks will be required due to the governor's executive mandate.
