Obituary

Robert H. "Bob" Woodruff, 95, formerly of Scottsburg, passed away peacefully at home in Louisville, Kentucky on October 8, 2022. Bob was born on May 15-16, 1927, to Harry F. and Goldie Woodruff. His birth certificate says May 15, but his mother always insisted it was the 16th and his family always celebrated his birthday on the 16th with his favorite meal of bean soup, cornbread and cherry cobbler.

Bob graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington and University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. He was a member of the Bar in both Kentucky and Indiana until the time of his death. Bob retired three times, but never missed a day of work until his final retirement when he was in his 80's. He was proud of his career, and it centered around Ogden, Gelphin and Abell law firm, Commonwealth Life Insurance Company, Capital Holding Corporation, President of the First National Bank of Scottsburg, Cowger and Miller and Citizens Union Bank in Shelbyville, Kentucky. He also owned, managed, and did maintenance on 40 rental properties in Kentucky and Indiana.

Bob was a great cook and loved entertaining and silly jokes. He threw himself a gala 90th Birthday party and made all the food and the desserts himself. He also enjoyed travel had been all over the United States and Canada as well as made several trips to Europe and Asia with his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years Mary Joyce Comer Woodruff; brother, Bill J. Woodruff and a companion of many years, June Sanders.

Bob is survived by his brother, Richard (Inez) Woodruff of Roswell, Georgia; daughters, Anne (Bud) Schad of Louisville, Kentucky, and Ellen Comer Woodruff of Wildwood, Florida; son, James Bradley Sanders (Frances) of Florida and five grandchildren.

Visitation at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana on Thursday, October 13, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral and burial at Bethel Baptist Church of Leota, Indiana, Friday October 14, 2022, at 11:00 am (visitation 10 am to 11 am). Expressions of sympathy can be made to Leota, Indiana Bethel Baptist Church and Cemetery fund.
