Obituary

Rodney Phillips, 74, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on December 26, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on July 28, 1950 in Scottsburg, Indiana, to Harry Phillips and Christine (Doyle) Phillips. Rodney graduated from Scottsburg Senior High School in 1968. On April 16, 1983 Rodney married the love of his life, Cindy, who survives. Rodney spent his life dedicated to his family and his passion for machinery, working as a machinist at Cummins Engine Company, where he built a fulfilling career. Together he and his wife, Cindy, owned and operated their own business, Phoenix Cleaning and Restoration. Rodney was not just defined by his profession; he was a man of many hobbies and interests. He had a deep love for the outdoors, often found delighting in yard work and tending to his beautiful flower gardens. An avid golfer, he cherished the time spent on the course, and his laughter and camaraderie made every outing special. Rodney also had a keen interest in politics, engaging in lively conversations that reflected his thoughtful nature. Above all, Rodney had a heart for the community, particularly when it came to coaching and watching Scottsburg Senior League baseball. His encouragement from the sidelines resonated with both players and parents alike, and he will be remembered for his unwavering support and dedication to youth sports. In addition to his parents, Rodney is preceded in death by his son, Shawn Phillips; sister, Brenda Allen; and brother, Harry Phillips, Jr. Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Phillips of Scottsburg, Indiana; son, Brian Phillips; daughter, Marlena Beacraft; brother, Bradley (Helen) Phillips; sister, Debbie (Roger) Napier; and four grandchildren, Chase Phillips, Collin Phillips, Lola Phillips, and Madison Ash. The memorial service for Rodney Phillips will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 3:00pm at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Tom Collett officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service Friday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the funeral home. Cremation was entrusted to Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Memorial donations can be made in Rodney's name to the Scott County Humane Society in c/o Collins Funeral Home.
