Roger Douglas Wheat, 59, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at his residence. He was born on July 12, 1961 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of John D. Wheat and Janet Faith (Trowbridge) Wheat. Roger graduated in 1979 from Clover Hill High School in Richmond, Virginia, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and earned a Bachelor's Degree. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the United States Air Force, after 22 years of service and during that time was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. Roger was currently an employee of Multi-Color in Scottsburg, Indiana and also had worked at the old Tokusen Manufacturing in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was a Catholic and enjoyed square dancing and had belonged to numerous dance clubs over the years. Roger also enjoyed woodworking and donated a wooden Eagle that he made each year for WeCare. Survivors include his mother, Janet Faith Wheat of Scottsburg, Indiana; a brother, Phillip Wheat of North Vernon, Indiana and three nephews, Scott Allen and Jonathan Ray McCrory and Phillip Forrest Wheat. He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Wheat on July 13, 2020; a brother, Scott Alan Wheat and a sister, Vicki Joy Wheat. A joint military graveside service will be held for Roger and John at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Scottsburg Cemetery with Pastor Bern Kiser officiating. Visitation: 6 to 8 PM on Monday at Collins Funeral Home. Visitation and graveside services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed. Please follow the CDC's recommendations and guidelines while attending the services and face masks will be required due to the governor's executive order.
