Ruby R. Brown, 102, of Whiteland, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at her home with her family by her side. She was born on October 5, 1923 in Jackson County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Henry Wesley Hawn and Sarah Catherine (Temples) Hawn. On August 30, 1940 she married the love of her life, Sheldon Eugene Brown, who passed away on January 28, 1993. As a homemaker, Ruby dedicated herself to her family, instilling values of hard work and commitment. She was not just a devoted mother but an incredible multitasker, expertly balancing various roles throughout her life. Ruby was known for her adventurous spirit-she drove a truck, served as a school bus driver, farmed alongside her family, and even worked as a head housekeeper. Her life exemplified a tireless work ethic and unwavering devotion to those she loved. In addition to her parents and late husband, Sheldon, Ruby was preceded in death by her two daughters, Mary West and Velma Dawson; five grandchildren, Tammy Reece, Loretta Archer, Glenn Tomas III, Steve Moore and Charles Townsend; three brothers, Roland, Harold and Charles Hawn and two sisters, Kathaleen Frost and Delores Frost; and a son-in-law, Earl Townsend. Ruby's survivors include one daughter, Ruth A. Townsend; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 22 great great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Monday, June 29, 2026 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be prior to the service on Monday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana. Family requests memorial Contributions be to made to Russell Chapel Cemetery Association c/o Collins Funeral Home.
