Russell Rider, 82, passed away on August 10, 2025, Clark Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Clarksville, Indiana. He was born on December 6, 1942, in Crothersville, Indiana, to the late Fred Rider and Vivian (Christie) Rider. Russell spent his life embodying the spirit of hard work and dedication. He enlisted in the Army in July of 1961, proudly serving his country while also preparing for a fulfilling career. On November 21, 1964, Russell married Brenda Batman, and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2017. Russell made a name for himself as a millwright, dedicating over twenty years to the Old American Can Factory, and later contributing another two decades at Miller's Heating and Cooling. Known for his down-to-earth demeanor, he was a tireless worker and an even better storyteller. He shared many laughs with family and friends, often over a spirited game of bingo, which brought him joy and connection. In addition to his wife, Brenda, and parents Russell is preceded in death by his four siblings, Kay Turner, Clyde Rider, Roberta Wooten, and Doris Hudson. Russell is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Tim) Hendrix of Clinton, Tennessee, and Kim Grider of Scottsburg, Indiana; two sons, Russell Rider of Scottsburg, Indiana and Dustin Rider of Louisville, Kentucky; companion, Linda; two sisters, Ruby Miller and Helen Rider; one brother, Lee Rider; fourteen grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Chelsea, Kaitlin, Kristen, Logan, Courtney, Brent, Kalee, Ben, Aaron, Byronn, Dakota, and Kylie; and twelve great grandchildren. There will be time for friends and family to visit on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
