Obituary

Samuel Hammons, 71, of Salem, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the University Of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on July 28, 1950 in Austin, Indiana, the son of the late Edward and Gladys (Adams) Hammons. He served during the Vietnam War as a SP5 in the U.S. Army. On December 5, 1971 he married Donna (Spellman) Hammons, who survives. Sam was a former employee of Seymour Housewares in Seymour, Indiana for many years. He was a member of the Scottsburg Church of Christ. Sam loved to fish, plant in his garden, and spend quality time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bob Hammons. Survivors include wife, Donna Hammons of Salem, Indiana; two sons, Sam (Heather) Hammons II of Campbellsburg, Indiana and T.J. (Tina) Hammons of Lexington, Indiana; two daughters, Hope Wingler of Salem, Indiana and Casey Hammons of Austin, Indiana; two brothers, Charlie Hammons of Salem, Indiana and Richard (Paulette) Hammons of Uniontown, Indiana; grandchildren, JD Shoults, Mariah Shoults, Gavin Henson, Cory Simmons, Courtney Anderson, Mattlyn Sample (Julian), Hadlee Bush; and great grandchildren, Amelia Glover, Aiden Glover, Kylee Sample, Ariel Brewster. Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Pastor Matt McGlothlin officiating. Visitation: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Sunday at Collins Funeral Home. The family is requesting that masks be worn at the funeral home for services. Interment at Spurgeon Cemetery in Austin, Indiana.
