Sara Anne Gulley, 84, of Scottsburg, IN passed away Monday, February 2, 2026, at 12:10 am at Norton Clark Hospital in Jeffersonville.
She was born in Scott County, IN on August 3, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Harry & Anna Lee Carter.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Larry Gulley; her parents; and her brothers Harry Dee & Thomas Rodney Carter.
She grew up at the First Christian Church in Scottsburg but was recently a member at Northside Christian Church in New Albany. Sara worked for the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant as a Line Inspector for many years. She retired from Scott County Government with 25 plus years of service. She served as County Clerk for 8 years and 12 years as 1st Deputy. Sara also volunteered for Forget Me Not Ministries working on the financials for 20+ years.
She enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, bird watching, politics and most of all spending time with family.
Survivors include daughter - Sue Linn Ross (George) – Jeffersonville, IN; son - Mike Rose (Rita) – Louisville, KY; and daughter - Lisa Elliott (Lynn) – Scottsburg, IN.
Sara had 7 grandchildren who she loves spending time with: Rachel Ross, Nathan Ross (Ruthie), Michael Lee Rose (Lisa), Caitlin Matanich (Thomas), Bridget Wickliff (Jake), Ashley Maher (Nick), and Levi Elliott. She also had 8 great grandchildren, whom she was very proud of! Bella & Izaiah Ross, Daniel Lee Rose, Lily, Carter & Zeke Ross, & Capri and Banks Matanich.
Sara is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Susan Carter of Lakeland, FL, Nancy Carter of Jeffersonville, IN, and Bess “Bill” Tomlin of Covington, KY.
She was also blessed by relationships with close cousins, nieces, nephews & caring neighbors.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Collins Family Center in Scottsburg, IN on February 14th at 2:00 pm with food and fellowship to follow.
