Shirley Cain, 81, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Scott Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 27, 1938 in Bicknell, Indiana. Shirley graduated from Scottsburg High School in the Class of 1956. She was married on April 26, 1958 to Donald Cain and this year they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Shirley was a retired secretary for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana, where she worked for 35 years and was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was a devoted member of the Theta Alpha Chapter of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority since 1975, holding several offices including Chapter President. Shirley was always one of the first to volunteer for any activity the sorority was involved in. No task was too great for her and she will be sorely missed. Survivors include her husband, Don Cain; two sons, Jeff (Ruth) Cain of Melbourne, Florida and Gary (Denise) Cain of Scottsburg, Indiana; two brothers, Kenny (Susie) Arnold of Columbus, Indiana and Eddie (Teri) Arnold of Lexington, Indiana; three sisters, Debbie Courtney of Madison, Indiana; Phyllis Silence of Scottsburg, Indiana and Patty (Arthur) Burch of Dothan, Alabama; four grandchildren, Ryan (Sara) Cain, Tiarra (John) English, Brianna (Kyle) Kohnke and Jessica Cain and ten great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Cruise and Layla English, Kylee, Adara and Michael Cain, Varonicca, Esmee, Wendy and Freya Kohnke. Shirley was preceded in death by by a son, Steven Douglas Cain; her father and stepmother, Owen and Dorothy Arnold; her mother and stepfather, Letha and Lige Johnson; a sister, Vera Rude and two brothers, James and Leland Byrer. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the Scottsburg First Christian Church. Visitation: 12 pm to 2 pm on Wednesday at the First Christian Church. Cremation is requested following the service with burial at a later date in Scottsburg Cemetery. Services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed. Please follow the CDC's recommendations and guidelines while attending the visitation and face coverings are encouraged.
