Obituary

Shirley Ann Davis, 88, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on March 14, 2022. She was born on November 28th, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was proceeded in death by her husband Jim. She is survived by her 4 children: Howard, Marcia, Mark, and Ken – all of whom served the nation in the United States Air Force. She had 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Shirley was a musician at heart, trained to be a concert pianist. She preferred however to serve congregations wherever she lived. She and Jim traveled the country, living in Indiana, Florida, California, Wyoming, Washington, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois. She played piano and organ for thousands of people – helping them to worship, celebrate new love at weddings, comforting those at funerals, and simply uplifting their spirits. She was primarily a mother and housewife with the unique ability to support and care for people wherever she lived; people others had little patience or compassion for. She had a voracious appetite for reading books. She enjoyed her pets and her plants. Her husband Jim bought her a cookbook for a wedding present – because she didn't know how to boil water. She became an amazing cook, cake decorator, canner, and quite artistic with thread and yarn. She could also tell quite a yarn – with stories of adventures across the country. She constantly bragged about her children – and possibly elaborated on their abilities and successes. She was their greatest cheerleader. The most important aspect of her life was her faith in Jesus Christ. Her favorite verse was Matthew 4:16, "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you". We will hold a graveside service on Saturday, March 26th at 11:00. The vessel that held her spirit will be laid to rest in the Howard family plot in the Washington Park East Cemetery, located at 10612 Washington St., Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local church or a charity of your choosing. A couple of suggestions: Bree's Blessings - giving children with cancer the gift of music Gold in Fight - serving children with cancer International Justice Mission - freeing slaves around the world Habitat for Humanity - building homes for the poor Online condolences: www.collinsfuneralhome.net
