Sue Bloom, 81, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born on February 16, 1942, in Underwood, Indiana, the daughter of the late Elson Levi Rose and Agnes Lorene (Broady) Rose. A graduate of Scottsburg High School, she went on to pursue studies in the field of office administration. On May 3, 1963, she married the love of her life, Bernard Charles Bloom. After Bernard was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2005, Sue lovingly cared for him until he succumbed to the disease in 2015.
Her faith was a large part of her life, and she was a member of Fairview Christian Church. Sue enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially attending their sporting events. She was an avid gardener, who was always willing to share the beautiful irises that grew under her care. Her cooking skills were legendary, with her family always looking forward to her homemade chicken and noodles, along with her famous mashed potatoes.
She loved to travel, and never lost her love for flying. One of the highlights of her life was a 3-week trip out west, where she and her husband drove to Alaska and back.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Walker, and great grandson Cordell Bloom. Survivors include daughter, Connie (Stacy) Coartney of Crestwood, Kentucky; two sons, Chris Bloom of Madison, Indiana and Greg Bloom, Florida; sister, Mexica Hilty of Ohio; two brothers, Donnie (Jo) Rose and Loyd (Sandra) Rose, both of Underwood, Indiana; six grandchildren, Kelissa Bloom, Jonathan, Evan, Cate and Ella Coartney, Isabella Strosberg; and two great grandsons, Seth Berggren and Kysen Bloom; along several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for their loving care and support during her illness.
Cremation was entrusted to Collins Funeral Home with interment and a Graveside service at a later day in Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana. Memorial Contributions can be made to Southern Care Hospice or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana
