Velma Lee Cox Hale, of Lexington, Indiana departed this life on October 20, 2025, at the age of 77. Velma was born on October 8, 1948, in Harlan, Kentucky, and spent her life in service to her family and community.
A talented seamstress, Velma dedicated over 50 years to the art of custom drapery, leaving a lasting impact on the interior design industry. Her meticulous craftsmanship and keen eye for detail brought beauty into countless homes and businesses.
Velma was a proud member of Solid Rock Church for more than 15 years, where she found a deep sense of community and fellowship. Her faith in God was as profound as her love for her family, which she cherished above all else. She is survived by her beloved sons, Daniel Hale and Nathan Hale, her grandchildren, Shelbie Ann Hale and Cody Allan Hale, her siblings, Zella Reardon, Edward Cox, Kathy Routt, Phyllis (Roger) Kriete, Sue Wagner, Miranda Church, John Cox as well as her sister-in-law, Virginia Cox. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Hale, Jr., brothers, Glen Cox and Richard Cox as well as her sisters-in-law, Maxine Cox and Donna Cox and her brothers-in-law, Howard Reardon and Isaac Routt.
An avid reader, Velma enjoyed immersing herself in books, and her creative spirit flourished as she crafted handmade items for local craft fairs. She adored the outdoors, finding peace and inspiration in nature. Velma was also an exceptional cook, known particularly for her homemade biscuits and gravy, which will be lovingly remembered by family and friends alike.
A graveside service will be held at Lexington Cemetery on October 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Mike Shuler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Velma's family has asked memorial contributions be made to the Ladies Ministry at Solid Rock Church through Collins Funeral Home. Please share memories and condolences at www.collinsfuneralhome.net. Arrangements are entrusted to Collins Funeral Home of Scottsburg.
